nick parisi
Nick Parisi (Victor Greedly) - Nick has been performing since 1971, appearing in that memorable musical called “Cowboy On The Moon” where he sang the Sammy Davis Jr. version of “Candy Man” and it all started from there! During his teen-aged years he aspired to a career on Broadway and was fortunate enough to be part of a group of High School athletes, qualifying for a full scholarship in dance with the Garden State Ballet Company. He took full use of that scholarship for 5 years, into his freshman year of college and received training in the Balanchine theory of ballet by Frederick Danielli, founder of Garden State Ballet. Mr. Danielli had been one of Balanchine’s students and dancers in his company. Nick was also trained in jazz and tap while at Garden State Ballet. Given his scholarship, he was an extra in many performances of “The Nutcracker” and had the unusual and amusing job one year, of being situated underneath Clara’s bed and crawling on all fours so that it moved across the stage during her dream sequence! During those years, Nick appeared in a variety of musicals including two stints in “West Side Story” where he played the role of Arab twice and also understudied the role of Tony and acted as dance captain. Additionally during those years, Nick performed the role of Nicely-Nicely Johnson in “Guys and Dolls” as well as performing the role of lead dancer/Popularity number in the musical “George M.” He also traveled into New York City during that time-period, taking classes and deciding whether to continue the quest for Broadway, or return to college. He opted for the latter, graduated (first in his family), had a career in business, married and raised a family. Throughout his life, Nick pursued singing and was active in numerous choirs including the Masterwork Boy’s Chorus of NJ, NJ All-State Chorus 1977 (1 st tenor/1 st chair), numerous church choirs/groups/ensembles, CitiSingers of Hartford, and a robust solo ministry. In 2010, Nick decided to give theater another run. He joined Theater Guild of Simsbury and began an active participation including the roles of Lumiere in “Beauty and the Beast”, Ebenezer Scrooge in Christmas Carol – The Musical”, Marcellus Washburn in “Music Man”, Ellard Sims in “The Foreigner” (a hoot of a part!). He’s also been very involved in stage crew and management and loves being backstage, getting all ready for the performers to do their thing and entertain! In 2012 perhaps by coincidence, perhaps by design, he was involved in performing two plays set 100 years prior – 1912 – “Music Man” and “Our Town.” It was a privilege to perform those works exactly 100 years later from the time in which they were set. In 2018 and with the Farmington Valley Stage Company, Nick was privileged to be part of a musical review, created by a local talent, and where Nick’s musical numbers were designed around his voice and vocal abilities. Nick also became very involved in staged readings – where the play is performed solely in a reading fashion – no costumes, no sets/scenery, just the voice and inflection to deliver the role. In 2019 he had the honor of directing the world premier reading of “An Interview With God” which originated as a movie and is transitioning to a theatrical event. Nick has even performed at a prison – the oldest in the US! Well, technically no longer a prison. Old Newgate Prison and Copper Mine is open to the public and he performed the role of the muck-raking pastor who succeeded in getting the prison shut down for its deplorable conditions. In his “later years” so to speak, Nick finds character roles extremely rewarding. Victor Greedly gives him the chance to use his NJ roots and that NY accent! We are each given a talent in this life and are expected to use it and shine. Bringing theater to life is a joy. Please enjoy this gem of a show!
